Middle School

Grades 6-8:  Way to be Positive Wednesdays at SA-students are invited and encouraged to wear shirts or sweatshirts that have a positive saying or kind thought (ie. Be Kind, Life is Good, etc.).  Uniform bottoms are to be worn and outwear policies will still be in place.

 

High School

Grade 11: Senior Class Trip-
Please see the PowerPoint for information on the senior trip for the class of 2023.A $100 deposit is due to Mrs. Moore by Thursday, April 14. See payment options in the PowerPoint. Full amount- remaining $1400 will be due on June 2. Payments- Four $350 payments due May 2, June 1, September 6, and October. 3. *If your family qualifies for free/reduced lunch benefits, you may also qualify for financial assistance for the trip. Please see Mrs. Allen in the middle school office for more information on the free/reduced lunch benefits and message Mrs. Messina. Do not let money be the reason for not attending!

Grade 12:  IMPORTANT END OF YEAR INFORMATION FOR SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES:

YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION
A high school yearbook distribution day is scheduled from 12:30pm-2:30pm on Thursday,
May 26, 2022.  Pizza and ice cream will be served.

Student Debt:  All student debt must be paid by this time.  Yearbooks cannot be distributed to students with outstanding debt. You may check your debt status by emailing andrea.rogers@saas.k12.de.us

6TH ANNUAL ATHLETIC AWARDS CEREMONY
June 1, 2022 at 6pm.  Additional information will be sent from Mr. Bastianelli.

SENIOR BREAKFAST
Mr. Anderson will host a senior breakfast in the cafetorium from 8am-9am on June 2, 2022.  

MANDATORY COMMENCEMENT PRACTICE
Commencement practice will be held from 9am-12pm on June 2, 2022 at the Sussex Academy Stadium.  Caps, gowns, and tickets will be distributed at practice. 

Student Debt:  All student debt must be paid by this time.  Commencement tickets cannot be distributed to students with outstanding debt. You may check your debt status by emailing andrea.rogers@saas.k12.de.us

School Uniform Drop Off: A uniform collection bin will be set up on June 2, 2022 to allow for drop off of school uniforms.

SENIOR AWARDS CEREMONY
The senior awards ceremony will be by invitation only and is scheduled for 6:30pm on June 2, 2022 in the Sussex Academy cafetorium.  Each invited student will be able to invite four guests.

COMMENCEMENT
An outdoor commencement will be held in the Sussex Academy Stadium at 6pm on June 3, 2022.   The event will move to the Sussex Academy cafetorium in the event of rain.  The decision to move to an indoor location will be made by 11am on Friday, June 3 and families will be notified by email.

TICKETS

  • Each student can have 8 guests if the event is held in the SA Stadium.
  • Each student can have 4 guests if the event is held in the SA Cafetorium.
  • Students will receive 8 tickets during commencement practice. The tickets are marked for indoor and outdoor locations.
  • Each guest must have a ticket. All guests (ages 2+) must have a ticket for admission.
  • If you need extra tickets, please have your student ask their classmates if they have extra tickets.
  • The number of tickets being provided for each student puts us at capacity. We are not able to provide any additional tickets. 
  • Guests will not be permitted to stand along the perimeter of the ceremony area or in the parking lots to watch the event.

We are unable to distribute commencement tickets to students with school debt.  To check your status please email andrea.rogers.@saas.k12.de.us

STUDENTS WITH HANDICAPPED GUEST(S)
Please email gina.derrickson@saas.k12.de.us to make accommodations for handicapped guest(s).

STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING COMMENCEMENT
Please email gina.derrickson@saas.k12.de.us if your student is not planning to participate in commencement exercises.

ATTIRE
Graduates must wear caps and gowns with appropriate business casual attire and shoes. Students are permitted to decorate caps only, but must make sure decorations are school-appropriate or they may jeopardize their opportunity to walk.

Stole and cords permitted to be worn:  National Honor Society, International Baccalaureate Diploma, French Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Gold and Diamond Level Certificate of Multiliteracy.

Caps and gowns will be distributed at a mandatory commencement practice scheduled for 9am on June 2, 2022.

COMMENCEMENT ARRIVAL and ATTENDANCE
Students are asked to arrive to Mrs. Moore’s room by 5:30pm.  Students should park in the front of the building.

Gates for guests will open at 5:30pm.  Guests should park in the aquatic center parking lot and in lots behind the building.

CEREMONY LIVESTREAMING
The ceremony will be livestreamed on SA’s Facebook (Sussex Academy) page for family members and friends who would like to watch it remotely.  Those watching remotely can go directly to school’s public Facebook page and watch the livestream beginning shortly after 6pm (following the procession).  Those that like the school’s FB page will receive a notice that Sussex Academy is live.  If you have any questions about the livestream, please email gina.derrickson@saas.k12.de.us   Please ask your questions in advance of graduation as we will not be able to respond to calls, text, FB messages or emails once the ceremony begins.

Women's Lax - The women's lacrosse team rolled over Wilmington Friends in the State Tournament quarter finals 15-5 in the oppressive heat Saturday.  The team will play Tatnall on Tuesday at 7pm at Delaware State University in their semi-final game.  Peyton Hagy, Jacqui Thomas, Emma Lehman, Quinn Nutter, and Savannah Montgomery ran a powerful defense to help secure the win over the Hornets. 

Men's Lax - The HS men's lacrosse team opened the week with a 11-5 win over Delmar followed the next day with a 15-4 win over Lake Forest.  On Friday the team lost to Cape Henlopen in the North vs South Conference Championship game.  The team has earned the #12 seed and will play in the State Championships on Wednesday at Cape Henlopen at 7pm.  All tickets must be purchased online.

Soccer- The HS soccer team lost a true heartbreaker to Newark Charter when they gave up a goal in the last 15 seconds of the game.  This loss put them out of the state tournament.  Tayler Flaherty scored a beautiful early goal but it just did not hold up.  The team then dusted Laurel 7-0 on Senior Night.  Seniors Yasli Morales Perez, Kat Portillo, Merrill Smith, and Zoe Probert scored as did 8th grader Debora Williams.  Emma Westbrook recorded another shutout.  The team finished the season 8-7.
Baseball- The HS baseball team lost to Indian River to finish the season 8-10.  Senior Wes McLaughlin led the Seahawk offense in his last game with a 2 run double in the 5th.
Golf- The 15-1 golf team claimed their 2nd straight Henlopen Conference title besting CR in the North vs South championship match 161-164.  Hannah and Sarah Lydic shared medalist honors shooting a 36 each.  Austin Dostal shot a 44 and McKenna Danahy a 45 to score for the Seahawks.
 
Women's Track- Sadie Tunnell came a hair from duplicating her 400 meter State Title in Indoor earning a silver medal in the outdoor state Championships.  She will compete in the Meet of Champions on Wednesday.  She also placed 4th in the 200m.  The 4x400 relay team placed 5th and Lily Bowe placed 8th in the 3200m.
Men's Track- Ethan Boladas placed 8th in the 200m in the State Championships. 
Women's Tennis- Sage Tunnell won her state championship 1st round match easily 6-0, 6-0 over her opponent from Odessa.  She will play Milford's 2nd singles in the 2nd round today.
