Who Can Attend
Interested parents of Delaware students eligible to attend grades 6 through 10 may apply for admission to the Sussex Academy. The Sussex Academy began offering services for students in high school grades in August 2013 and is now a grade 6 through 12 school. In order to acquaint the public with the school, we host tours and public information sessions during the fall. These are followed by our application period.

Open Application Period
Sussex Academy Middle School Grades
The school determines the number of anticipated sixth grade openings for the upcoming school year each November. Applications for those positions will be accepted this year beginning on Monday, November 4, 2019. Applications submitted between that date and Wednesday, January 8, 2020, will have priority consideration for admission. As completed applications are submitted to the school, they are assigned a submission number which is provided to the parents/guardians and used for the lottery process. Incomplete applications or applications from ineligible students will not be processed. Please note that applications received prior to November 4, 2019 will be returned and those that are received after 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2020 will be placed at the end of the waiting list.
Sussex Academy High School Grades
Applications for entering grade 9 in Aug./Sept. 2020 will be accepted beginning on November 4, 2019. If there are more than 110 applications for next year’s 9th grade class submitted prior to January 8, 2020, a lottery will be held to determine who will be invited to enroll.
Some applicants are given preference during the Open Application Period and are not subject to the lottery. Applicants who have an older sibling who will be concurrently attending the Sussex Academy and those who are children of either staff members or Founding Board members are automatically offered a position provided that their applications are received during the Open Application Period. Other students who desire to be considered for Preference are encouraged to check the box seeking “Special Interest” preference and go through the Lottery process. After the Lottery, a Board committee will review the requests and set up opportunities for selected students to interview for “Special Interest” openings.
