Lottery and Enrollment
Complete applications submitted for anticipated sixth and ninth grade openings during the Open Application Period are recorded electronically in Data Services and assigned a confirmation number. If more applications are received during the Open Application Period than there are anticipated openings, a lottery is held to select the students who will be invited to enroll for the upcoming school year. Students are admitted to the school in the order that their application is selected.
If lotteries are required for the 2020 – 2021 school year, then the proceedings will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020. The lottery results will be emailed and mailed to all applicants providing enrollment details to the successful candidates and waiting list information to those who are not selected. The application numbers of incoming 6th grade students who are assigned lottery numbers 105 or below will be invited to enroll for the 2021 school year. In accordance with Delaware code as stated in Title 14 section 405(c), the waitlist will remain in effect until the first day of school of the next school year.
Immediately following each lottery, all applicants are contacted and informed of their status. The applicants that were assigned numbers during the lottery proceedings that are within the number of anticipated openings are invited and given instructions on how to enroll. The enrollment period for the 2020-21 school year begins on February 3, 2020 and ends March 13, 2020. The applicants whose numbers are above the anticipated openings allotment are placed on a waiting list based on their lottery numbers. In the event that a lottery is not needed for either grade 6 or 9, then the application and enrollment periods will be extended.
