Academics
Curriculum
All students follow an accelerated curriculum that meets or exceeds state standards. Our program challenges students academically while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. With an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, problem-solving and real-world applications, students are prepared not only for success in high school but also for college and lifelong learning. Beyond core subjects, students engage in enriching courses such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes, dual enrollment opportunities, environmental science, world languages, visual and performing arts, and leadership development—ensuring a well-rounded education that supports both academic excellence and personal growth.
Instruction
Our teachers utilize diverse instructional strategies to actively engage students through collaboration, inquiry and meaningful feedback. To ensure every student thrives, we implement a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), providing targeted academic and social-emotional interventions tailored to individual needs. This approach allows us to maintain high expectations while offering personalized support essential for student success.
Assessment
We employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, guide instruction and deliver timely, meaningful feedback. These assessments measure both content mastery and higher-order thinking skills, ensuring students are equipped to apply knowledge in real-world contexts. State testing plays a vital role by offering standardized data to evaluate overall student achievement and school effectiveness. Through regular progress monitoring—including analysis of state assessment results—our educators personalize learning, identify areas for growth, and celebrate student achievements in a supportive and challenging environment.
Academic Challenge Program
Our rigorous Academic Challenge Program nurtures the talents of highly motivated students in mathematics and English. Students apply in 7th grade and begin the program in 8th grade, completing a five-year accelerated sequence. This program offers high school-level coursework at an advanced pace, allowing students to earn college credits through dual enrollment during their junior and senior years. Students can earn up to 12 college credits in English and 15 in Mathematics through partnerships with Delaware Tech and the University of Delaware at the Owens Campus.
