To augment their study of tribal nations, Sussex Academy sixth graders welcomed a member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa and Spirit Lake Dakota tribal groups to school for a hands-on educational presentation.

Boe Harris-Nakakakena is a Northern Traditional and Jingle dancer who also plays the Native American flute. She visited with each of Jonathan English’s social studies classes Nov. 13, when she displayed traditional clothing and regalia, described Native American practices and even led students in a traditional dance. Students also had the opportunity to experiment with musical instruments.
