Sussex Academy students inducted into science honor society
Sussex Academy inducted 12 new members of the Science National Honor Society in a student-led school ceremony Dec. 3.
The chapter, which was founded in 2023, is open to juniors, seniors and exceptional sophomores who have demonstrated academic excellence, maintained a strong GPA and excelled in rigorous science coursework.
Leading the society are President Debora Williams, Vice President Priya Haldar, Secretary Gabrielle Yablonski, Treasurer Noah Benz and Service Hour Coordinator Abby Whitcomb. Biology teacher Jennifer Couch serves as advisor.
Congratulations to new members Alishba Ahmer, River Antonov, Jaslene Brunskill, Biloxi Buffington, Lucas Ducote, Karla Hernandez, Natalia Gatti, Caroline Olewiler, Prachi Patel, Hannah Purse, Shannon Scudder and Omar Zahraouli.
Science National Honor Society members collaborate annually with Sussex Academy Elementary to bring high school students into elementary school science classrooms to teach hands-on lessons.
Members also offer tutoring or study sessions for students preparing for AP science exams, invite guest speakers to the classroom and engage in service projects that promote scientific understanding.
