Sussex Academy eighth grade science teacher John Reichenberg recently participated in the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research STEM Teacher Leadership Academy, joining educators from across the country for an immersive professional learning experience focused on emerging science and technology.

During the academy, Reichenberg explored cutting-edge fields including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, autonomous systems, and biotechnology. Participants also learned directly from nationally and internationally recognized scientists, including a Nobel laureate.

“Learning directly from scientists working at the forefront of discovery was an incredible experience,” Reichenberg said. “I’m excited to bring what I learned back to my students at Sussex Academy and help them see how the science they study today connects to the technologies and careers of the future.”

Reichenberg plans to incorporate ideas from the academy into classroom instruction and share resources and insights with colleagues. The experience also provided opportunities to collaborate with STEM educators from across the nation and explore new ways to prepare students for future careers in science, engineering and technology.
