Performing artists inducted into Sussex Academy societies

Sussex Academy students in two different performing arts societies were inducted into their new leadership organizations during an Oct. 21 ceremony.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an honors music program dedicated to recognizing high school students for their academic and musical achievements, said Performing Arts Director Christopher Decker. The three “M’s” in Tri-M stand for “Modern Music Masters.”

“Membership in Tri-M is more than just a title, it is a responsibility,” Decker said. “The emblem of our society rests on three fundamental pillars: Music, leadership and service.”

Music challenges us to pursue excellence, push past limits and honor the craft of sound, Decker said.

“Leadership calls us to set an example for our peers through our work ethic, integrity and enthusiasm in every rehearsal,” he said. “And service reminds us that the gifts we cultivate inside these walls are meant to be shared generously with the world outside of them.”

This year’s Tri-M inductees are Reed Snyder, Nevaeh Abrams-Hardy and Kaia Medrano. To be eligible, students must have maintained high academic standing, demonstrated exceptional musical ability and shown a deep commitment to serving the school and community through music.

The International Thespian Society is an honor society for high school theatre students. The society’s motto comes from Alexander Pope, who said, “Act well your part; there all the honor lies.”

“This year marks the inaugural induction for Sussex Academy’s troupe 13591,” Decker said. “We recognize students who have earned membership through exceptional work in acting, technical theatre, theatrical design and stage management.”

To be accepted into the International Thespians Society troupe, students had to earn points; each point represents approximately 10 hours of quality work in the theatre department for a minimum of 100 hours.

Inducted into the International Thespian Society are Nevaeh Abrams-Hardy, Chloe (River) Antonov, Lillian Baker, BrixiAnn Bell, Lillie Bradley, Lucille Clark, Marissa Davis, Finna Graves, Natalie Howard, Lorilyn Marsch, Kaia Medrano, Olivia Nehrbas, Elodie Nein, Ashlin Palmeri, Zoe Pine, Valentina Porfido, Edward Proseus, Coral Trench and Ava (Juno) Turner).
