Sussex Academy inducted 36 new members of the National Honor Society April 27.

The NHS is led by President Carolyn Reese, Vice President Aubrey Stanislav, Treasurer Victoria Evans and Secretary Leni Kuska and overseen by advisors Rebecca Frankum and Colin Marine.

To qualify, students must be at least a sophomore with a grade point average of 85% or above. Student applications must demonstrate action in leadership, character, community service and academic standing. Applications are redacted to be anonymous and a faculty council reviews the applications and votes to determine if a student meets the criteria of membership.

Newly inducted NHS members are Nevaeh Abrams-Hardy, Nadia Ahmed, Alishba Ahmer, Chloe Antonov, Leo Benz, Paige Blaine, Penelope Bowe, Landon Catts, Savannah Couch, Lucas Ducote, Taegan Forester, Abigail Gulab, Audrey Gulab, Cooper Hagy, June Hale, Reagan Hastings, Hailey Hudson, Selena Jacobs, Charlotte Kardos, Minahil Kayani, Mack Lawson, Maeve Lawson, Reilly Mobilia, Ben Moody, Brooklyn Montgomery, Eva Navitskaya, Olivia Nehrbas, Elodie Nein, Regan O’Connor, Cali Painter, Jackson Proctor, Meredith Schiff, Logan Stiles, Wyatt Stout, Kathryn Stump and Alec Villar.

Once inducted, students must maintain their GPA and participate in 10 hours of community service, with at least one hour dedicated to a chapter project.

Officers are newly elected each year and their job is to organize chapter community service projects and organize the annual induction ceremony.

The NHS also runs and maintains the school store at the secondary campus. Money from the proceeds of the school store funds the NHS Philanthropy Board, which grants funding to school clubs wishing to complete service projects.
