Indoor track teams shine at Henlopen Conference Championships
Our boys and girls indoor track teams had great showings at the 2025-26 Henlopen Conference Championships Jan. 22 at the Worcester County Recreation Center!
The girls team won their first conference championship in school history by
amassing an amazing 127 points in the victory over second place Cape Henlopen (81 pts)
and third place Smyrna High (80 pts). The Lady Seahawks scored in 13 out of the 15 events.
Their win was due in part to the depth of the team which had multiple scorers in 9 events.
Highlights were many with the team’s lone senior, Katya Geyer, winning the high jump with a leap of 5’2″ which ranks her #1 in the State Of Delaware!
Silver medals were awarded to freshman Reagan Klahr in the high jump (4’10”),
sophomore Taegen Forester with a shocker in the pole vault (7-0), and the
4 x 800 relay team of junior Jaslene Brunskill, freshmen Leah Cooper and Jordan Blades
along with junior Riley Moriarty in a time of 10:45.22.
Bronze Medals went to Katya Geyer in the triple jump (31-10.5) and 55 meter hurdles (10.31), Riley Moriarty in the 3200 meter run (12:50.95) and the 4×400 relay team of Jaslene Brunskill, Leah Cooper, 8th grader Garrity Cox and Taegen Forester in a time of 4:36.36.
Others Point Earners for the team victory were:
Sophomore Toluwani Ayodele (55 meter dash-8th and long jump 4th and 4×200 relay -6th)
Junior Layla Hastings (400 meter dash– 8th)
8th Grader Eva Piper (1600 and 3200 meter runs)
Junior Deenya Florestal (55 hurdles -4th)
Sophomore Talia Stegall (55 hurdles- 8th)
Freshman Claire Denham (pole vault- 4th)
Taegen Forester added points in the 400 meter dash (4th) and 4 x 200 relay (6th)
Leah Cooper scored in the 800 meter run (5th)
Jaslene Brunskill was 4th in the 800 meter run
Garrity Cox placed 6th in 800 and was on the 4 x 200 relay (6th)
Riley Moriarty placed 5th in the 1600
Jordan Blades placed 4th in the 1600
Eva Piper placed 5th in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600
Junior Makenna Blades was part of the 4 x 200 relay -6th)
Reagan Klahr also placed 5th in the triple jump and and 6th in the long jump
Freshman Avery O’Conner placed 6th in the triple jump
Our boys team finished 4th overall behind Dover, Cape and CR and were led by Senior Ryan Moody with wins in the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:34.12 and the 3200 in 10:10.80. Ryan also anchored the Team’s 4 x 800 relay team to a Win in 8:43.79. Joining Ryan in the gold medal relay were seniors Rocco Buonopane and Will Parker as well as his brother, sophomore Ben Moody. Senior Austin Taylor leaped to the Silver Medal in the High Jump with a height of 5-8.

Rocco Buonopane in the 400 meter dash (7th)
Will Parker 3200 meter run (8th)
Freshman Zander Pine with a fine pole vault jump of 9-0 to place 6th
The 4 x 400 team of Rocco Buonopane, Ben Moody, senior Kieran Probert and sophomore Christian Friscia finished 4th in a time of 3:54.74
The 4 x 200 team of Rocco Buonopane, Kieran Probert, Austin Taylor and senior Spencer Nagy finished 8th in a time of 1:40.79.
The Seahawks indoor season continues with a meet in Virginia Beach, and the state championships will be held at the Ott Center of the University Of Pennsylvania on Feb. 21.
